Kay Record
and Sara
Sara, with a sweet, gentle soul and liquid brown eyes, was adopted when she was three-years-old by Kay Record. She was scared, shy and had definite trust issues. Loud noises terrified her. On her first day at her new home she claimed a chair against the wall as her safe place. She remained glued to that chair for the first 24 hours.
Kay has worked very hard to earn her trust. Day by day, she gently was coaxed out of her shell, but her tail remained between her legs and her head hung low. She slept with Kay every night and shadowed her throughout the day. She wouldn't play and would roll onto her back in
fearful submission at the slightest thing.
With Kay's diligent work, gradually Sara's fear grew into trust. Her tail began to wag and she was spending less and less time in 'her chair.' She began showing great gentleness with people and Kay recognized qualities in Sara that led her to believe she would be a great therapy dog candidate.
With instruction and guidance from Jasmine Skala, our animal behavior specialist, Sara has gained confidence and is enjoying herself and life! Today she is participating in continuing education so she can continue learning, so that she can continue to share with 'her patients.' Sara has a wonderful future as a pet therapy dog. Lives will change and brighten, because Kay took Sara into her heart and saw enormous potential in this beautiful dog with liquid brown eyes.
